Featured Author of the Day: Katie Cox

Today on our Featured Author Series we have Katie Cox!

Katie Skinner Cox was born and raised in a small rural Iowa town. Katie attend Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa where she double majored in Corporate Communications and Marketing. While attending college, Katie had a professor who really challenged her students to write and write well. This is where her love for writing was born.

After college Katie married her college sweetheart, Ben and worked as an Admission Counselor for Simpson College. Katie left Simpson in January 2006 to become the Director of Communications and Meeting Planning for the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians where she is currently employed.

On August 1st, 2009 Ben and Katie welcomed their son Drake into the world. Drake is the inspiration behind Katie’s blog The Sassy Silly Spunky Momma. On her blog Katie writes about the joys and challenges of motherhood and shares many pictures of her adorable son. Katie has found that through her blog she has rediscovered her love of writing and has been able to form meaningful relationships with other mothers.

Katie decided to submit a writing piece to Write for Charity because she felt it was a worthy cause she would be proud to support. She was extremely proud and honored to find out her piece had been chosen to appear in From the Heart along with so many talented and accomplished authors. Being involved in this project has given Katie the courage and inspiration she needed to pursue other writing opportunities.

Katie is currently using her blog to hold a toy drive for a local children’s hospital. She hopes that her blog will inspire other bloggers to use their blog to make a difference and we are so happy to have her as part of our effort!
